Note that motorbikes rental Ha Dong prices in popular tourist destinations in Dong Da are higher compared to less touristy areas. If you plan to rent a scooter in Ha Dong. I recommend getting a bigger Motorbikes than 50cc.

I recommend renting a scooter from a scooter rental that looks trustworthy. Renting a scooter from your hotel is a good option although it will cost you more. But as we’re talking about a few dollars difference, it is a less risky option than to rent from a business that looks suspicious.

What Are Motorbike Rental Ha Dong Requirements?

If you want to rent a motorbike in Ha Dong, some rental companies ask for your passport while others don’t. We’ve noticed that shops located along the main touristy roads seem adamant about handing over your passport. It seems as though the smaller businesses on the less traveled side streets are more accepting to a passport photocopy or a cash deposit instead. To rent a motorcycle in Ha Dong District, you need two things:

Passport
Cash

For motorbike rental, there are different procedures depending on the rental shop and the length of the rental. If you stay in a hotel and rent a motorbike from the hotel for a few days, the hotel will not require a deposit. If you rent directly from a rental shop, you need to give your passport to the owner until you return the motorbike or deposit an amount of money (from 2 million VND to 3 million VND). Leaving a passport with a shop while you travel the whole country is not ideal, so an alternative can be suggested. Often rental shops will accept a different form of valid identification or even a copy of the passport.

Or sometimes a rental company could ask for the hotel that you are staying in.

Regarding payments, you almost always pay in cash and upfront. Most motorcycle companies don’t ask to see proof of a driver’s license. You can drive away from their shop without toppling over or crashing into something or someone.

Rules of the Road in Ha Dong

Depending on the rental business, duration of the rental and the type of bike you plan to rent, the procedures are different. For example, usually, if you are staying in a hotel and want to rent a motorbike from the hotel for under a week, the hotel usually will not need a deposit, instead they will hold your passport.

However, If you rent direct from a motorbike rental business, you will need to give either your ID/Passport or a deposit of money. Many rental shops will accept a valid identification or even a copy of the passport, with a smaller monetary deposit.

You must be careful checking your bike before rental. You should make sure that all the lights, indicators, horn and basic electrical functions are working before you leave. Also, you can even have the bike checked by a local mechanic to ensure that it’s in good condition for just a small fee if you are planning to rent longer term. Finally, and most important – always wear a helmet when riding a motorbike in Vietnam, not only is it the law but it will ensure your safety!

The Check List When rent a motorbike Ha Dong

When you find a bike you like, follow this process to ensure it is in top condition:

  • Start the bike and see if it holds an idle well (an idle is when the bike engine runs without you turning the throttle).
  • Test the front and rear turn signals and lights as well as the brake lights.
  • Press the horn and make sure it is easy to press and loud. You will be using it often!
  • Check the condition of the tyres. If they are balding, then you may not have good traction in the rain.
  • With the bike on the centre stand, spin the back wheel to make sure it does not wobble or vibrate.
  • Take the bike for a test drive, and test both brakes. They should feel tight and allow you to come to a quick stop. If not, then they should be able to fix this on the spot.
  • After test riding the motorbike at a higher speed for 15 minutes or so, stop and let the engine idle for a bit. Make sure the engine is still behaving as it did when you first started it up. Ensure that it doesn’t ‘kick’ or perform in an unstable way.
  • Turn off your bike after the engine is warm from a long test ride. Wait a bit to see if there any oil leaks—a sign that the engine is not in good condition.
